CT BODY SCREENING

CT Body Screening has improved the ability to detect disease early while the chances of treatment are better, improving treatment outcomes. BMIC uses the 64 slice GE CT, which is optimal equipment for this diagnostic and screening procedure.

For many years, screening modalities were limited to "routine" chest X-rays, EKGs, blood samples and a limited number of other tests. The use of CT for screening began to be useful with the advent of fast CT scans. This technology is very useful in the early detection of coronary artery disease, lung cancer, abdominal and pelvic masses and vascular disease.

Elevated coronary artery calcification scores are an indication of otherwise undetected coronary artery disease. Heart attacks claim approximately 500,000 lives per year in the United States. Of these, in about 1/3 of the deaths, there were no warning signs. Evaluation of coronary artery calcifications using CT is very sensitive and easy to do. If there is an elevated score, CT is also used to do minimally invasive coronary angiography and evaluate heart function.

Lung cancer, while not very common, is the leading cancer cause of death in both men and women. When found on a chest X-Ray, lung cancers are usually large and have less than a 20% survival rate. CT can demonstrate lung cancers while they are very small and have a much greater likelihood of being treated successfully.
