INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY

Interventional Radiology is a clinical subspecialty based on a foundation of image guided therapies. Image guidance allows treatments that may have traditionally required surgery to be performed non-surgically. In many cases these can be performed in an outpatient setting. While a full range of image guided therapies are available Dr. Arata's primary focus is on vein disorders, complications of osteoporosis and minimally invasive tumor therapy. In some cases the advanced treatments available at Birch Medical Office Center are seldom available if at all in Orange County's major medical centers.

Dr. Arata has received international recognition for his work with minimally invasive vein treatments. The use of advanced medical devices and techniques allowed successful outpatient treatment of severe Deep Vein Thrombosis, or DVT. While on staff at Hoag Hospital he introduced saphenous vein ablation.

Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive treatment for spinal fractures. Sacroplasty is a similar procedure for sacral fractures. Dr. Arata introduced this procedure to Orange County several years ago and regularly performs it at BMOC.

Recently significant advances have been made in the treatment of tumors. This is particularly true with regard to focal tumor ablation. Dr. Arata is one of Southern California's most experienced physicians with tumor ablation. Using a probe to destroy tumors with heat or freezing can be applied to a variety of benign or malignant lesions in outpatient setting.
