PET / CT

Combination PET/CT imaging is required for treatment of oncology patients. Birch has one of the few combined PET/CT unites in the Southern California area.

The PET portion of the study shows increased activity where there are tumors, i.e. indicated function. The CT portion of the study gives detailed anatomic information. Most imaging centers use software to fuse the two images. This does not give the best results and does not allow for optimal patient treatment.

In addition to oncology patients, PET/CT is one of the most advanced imaging methods for diagnosing brain conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and it is also one of the best ways of determining heart muscle function. PET/CT requires expert evaluation and this is provided by Ken Lyons, M.D. Dr. Lyons is one of the most renowned Nuclear Medicine physicians.
