CT COLONOGRAPHY

CT Colonography is another method of evaluating the colon. This does require a clean colon and does not require the use of anesthesia.

As is true of many cancers, early detection of colon cancer can significantly improve the likelihood of successful treatment. It has been recommended, for many years, to have the colon examined beginning at age 50. Colon examination has required the cleaning of the colon followed by insertion of a tube-like instrument into the colon. This procedure usually requires some form of anesthetic which then requires a recovery time and a driver to take the patient home after the examination.

The report from the National Institute of Cancer dated August 2005 stated that Virtual Colonoscopy (CT Colonoscopy) is an effective method to screen the colon. Using this method, the tube is not necessary and the anesthetic is not necessary. Because of this, the examination becomes easier and less time consuming for the patients. The likelihood of complication is reduced.
